Royals Finish With Best Record Since ’89
The Kansas City Royals ended the season on a winning note at 86-76 after Salvador Perez went deep in a 4-1 victory Sunday.
The Royals were as deep into the playoff race as they had been since 2003, but fell short after being eliminated in the middle of the past week. Bruce Chen started on closing day, and got his eighth win since joining the rotation just after the All-Star Break.
Kansas City had one qualifying player hit over .300, but Eric Hosmer got the day off in favor of Perez playing his first game at first base in the big leagues.
The Royals finished with their best record since 1989, when they went 92-70, missing the playoffs.
